Jewellery Care

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Please note that each product is hand made with care by Olivia Creber and is therefore unique. Slight variations in metal formation and stones are part of the unique character of the work. Therefore, we cannot guarantee you will receive an item identical to the image shown online. The purchaser is responsible for the after sales care of the work (see care instructions below). With just a little bit of care, you as the customer can protect your jewellery and keep it looking great for time to come.

CLEANING

VERMEIL JEWELLERY

To restore shine to vermeil jewellery use a silver or gold jewellery cleaning cloth. These polishing cloths are made of soft cotton and impregnated with a specific cleaning solution. Selvyt is our recommended brand and is used in-house. Take care not to use polishing agents or abrasive compounds, and do not have vermeil jewellery machine polished, as this will wear away the surface layer of gold. Keep away from hard surfaces, as bumps and scratches will cause wear to the plating. To extend the life of your vermeil jewellery we recommend keeping pieces in a soft pouch or jewellery box, out of direct sunlight and heat.

We offer a cleaning and re-plating service for our items of jewellery. Please contact Olivia for details and pricing.

PRECIOUS METALS

Sterling silver and gold are naturally soft metals and should be treated with special care to avoid damage. Avoid exposure to perfumes, oils and household chemicals. If tarnishing occurs, wipe with a silver or gold jewellery cleaning cloth. These polishing cloths are made of soft cotton and impregnated with a specific cleaning solution. Selvyt is our recommended brand and is used in-house. We would discourage using commercial liquid polish or “dips” on your jewellery, as these can sometimes be too abrasive and, when used too liberally, can also remove any deliberate oxidisation detail.

All matt and textured metals will eventually become shinier and display a natural polished effect with time and wear; this is part of the metal's character. But we here at Olivia Creber Jewellery like the fact it will change and develop with you as it is worn.

RESIN JEWELLERY

Resin is strong and durable but should be treated as a ceramic as it can break if dropped or knocked against a hard surface. To restore sheen to your resin jewellery, simply apply moisturiser. To keep your polished resin jewellery in great condition, simply wipe with a clean, dry cloth.

TIPS FOR GENERAL JEWELLERY CARE

— Remove your jewellery before engaging in practical activities. This will ensure that your jewellery does not get accidentally damaged.
— Beauty products for skin and hair can react with precious stones and metals, causing your jewellery to tarnish, discolour and even possibly corrode. Please put your jewellery on last, after applying cosmetics, scents and sprays.
— Store your jewellery in a separate compartment or pouch inside a jewellery box to prevent items rubbing together. Take care not to drop or scratch your pieces. Storing it sensibly will keep it looking newer for longer.
— Do not store your jewellery in damp or humid conditions as this causes tarnishing. Damp environments attract dust to stick and settle in the hard-to-clean settings.
— Take extra care when cleaning jewellery set with stones. If unsure about how to clean your jewellery, please contact us directly.
— Never wear your jewellery in the shower, or when swimming. Chlorine particularly can discolour and damage your jewellery.

PROCESSES

A majority of Olivia’s pieces are electroformed, which is a silver metal forming process that forms metal through electroplating. The outer surface of the silver grows over the inner surface of silicone, creating something like a sterling silver shell. This effective process allows a thin but supportive layer of metal to be deposited, resulting in organic, lightweight, and wearable pieces. If plated, 24k Yellow Gold, Rose Gold, and Black Gold are used.

Other pieces are made using the traditional lost wax casting process in Sterling Silver, 9k, 14k and 18k gold. As with all fine jewellery, stone settings should be checked occasionally. If there is movement, please return to us to fix. While the utmost care has been taken to set stones securely, Olivia Creber Limited is not responsible for the loss of stones after purchase. Please note that due to the unique nature of all of our stones, we cannot guarantee an identical replacement for any lost stones, though we will endeavour to find as similar a match as possible.
